Removing Chewing Gum by Freezing
Chewing gum can be removed from clothing by freezing the garment. This process involves the following steps:
Place the gum-stained clothing in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer, leaving it overnight until the gum has hardened completely. Use a dull knife to scrape the gum off the fabric. Rub the area with egg white to remove any remaining residue.
Alternatively, mix equal parts white vinegar and dish soap, rub the mixture onto the stain, and then wash the garment as usual. You can also use heat from an iron to remove chewing gum by following these steps:
Place a piece of cardboard on an ironing board, then lay the garment on top, ensuring the gum-stained area is facing the cardboard. Set the iron to a medium heat and iron the garment until the gum transfers onto the cardboard. Separate the garment from the cardboard, and repeat the process if any gum remains. There are also other household methods for removing chewing gum, including:
Lemon juice: Lemon juice is an effective and inexpensive way to remove gum stains. Simply dampen the stained area with lemon juice, scrape off the gum using a dull knife, and be sure to wash the garment immediately after applying the lemon juice.
Hair spray: Chewing gum can be removed from clothing by spraying hair spray directly onto the gum stain until it hardens, then scraping it off using a dull knife. Vinegar: Vinegar can be used to remove chewing gum stains from clothing by heating some vinegar, soaking the stained area in it for a sufficient amount of time, and then attempting to remove the gum using a dull knife or a spoon, taking care not to damage the garment.
